Our second addition, Atka, was adopted from Ariane and Richard of the original Nordic Hope kennel. Atka was very special to them. Sired by BIS Ch. Black Diamond Target (“Koal”), his Akamute genetics shine through in a glistening full coat, beautiful headpiece, and magnificent tail. Atka is our Athlete. He’s inherited a high working drive from his mom and is an incredible bundle of energy. With his superdog metabolism, he’s impossible to tire out.
Like his mom, Yukonjaks Kira, Atka is also a “communicator,” speaking in lengthy woo-woo sentences. Atka is a big, furry, super-affectionate boy who can leap small buildings in a single bound – well at least desks, fences, and tree stumps.
His name, given to him by his original owners, means one who has lived and knows things or Guardian Spirit. When Atka came to us, we thought for sure that he would be our Top Dog. To our surprise, he quickly submitted to Kanata. A true gentleman, he steps back to let her drink first, tolerates her jamming things in his face in tempting play rituals and even ignores her tugging on his ears. He lets her win many a malamute game, pretending not to notice that she has snuck away with the prize possession of the day whether it be, an old bone, mr. squeakers, or a darwin (may he rest in peace). Atka has brought her (and us) many smiles and acts as her supreme guardian.
